چکیده
Abstract In complex social groups, animals rely on communication to facilitate priority access resources and minimise the costs of conflict. Animals typically have more aggression signals than submission signals. However, some species do show multiple signals, context in which these different are used is often not well understood. current study, we assessed agonistic interactions within groups cooperatively breeding daffodil cichlid fish ( Neolamprologus pulcher ) investigate relationship between aggressive behaviours dominant pair, submissive responses highest ranked subordinate group. Daffodil cichlids may respond by fleeing or production either a tail quiver display head up display. Among two was frequently response threat display, while displays were produced approximately equally both overt aggression. An exaggerated version given aggression, suggesting graded Within fish, frequency displays, but correlated positively with received. The study helps us better understand use highly vertebrate sheds light as an understudied aspect communication.

Selective breeding for dominant and submissive behavior in Sabra mice.
BACKGROUND The Dominant-Submissive Relationship (DSR) model used here was developed for mood stabilizing and antidepressant drug testing. Treatment of submissive animals with known antidepressants significantly reduced submissive behavior in a dose-dependent manner. We hypothesized that if submissive behavior in DSR is a valid model of depression, it should be possible to show a genetic predisp...

The molecular mechanisms underlying complex social behaviours such as dominance are largely unknown. Studying the cooperatively breeding African cichlid Neolamprologus pulcher, we show that dominant females were similar to dominant males in dominance behaviour, high testosterone levels and brain arginine vasotocin expression (a neuropeptide involved in vertebrate territorial, reproductive and s...
متن کاملBrain nonapeptide levels are related to social status and affiliative behaviour in a cooperatively breeding cichlid fish
The mammalian nonapeptide hormones, vasopressin and oxytocin, are known to be potent regulators of social behaviour. Teleost fishes possess vasopressin and oxytocin homologues known as arginine vasotocin (AVT) and isotocin (IT), respectively. The role of these homologous nonapeptides in mediating social behaviour in fishes has received far less attention. The extraordinarily large number of tel...
متن کاملSocial status influences responses to unfamiliar conspecifics in a cooperatively breeding fish
In group living animals, individuals may visit other groups. The costs and benefits of such visits for the members of a group will depend on the attributes and intentions of the visitor, and the social status of responding group members. Using wild groups of the cooperatively breeding cichlid fish (Neolamprologus pulcher), we compared group member responses to unfamiliar ‘visiting’ conspecifics...
